Superspreader Holidays? Just Say No

Superspreader holidays or life-enhancing holidays? Everybody’s choice.

Choose wisely. These stories can inspire you from the heart… to do your part to beat the coronavirus pandemic.

Although I’ll lead off with a couple “Ick” and “Gack” stories. Like, how could a person making contact with reality NOT notice they’re putting loved ones at risk?

Our stories here can inspire everybody to wear masks, wash hands, practice social distancing. Also — for the love of humanity — not to “Travel home for the holidays.” Such obvious likelihood of Superspreader events!

#1. Superspreader Holidays, an Ick Story

According to data from the Transportation Security Administration, 3,052,139 people passed through U.S. airport checkpoints between Friday and Sunday, despite repeated warnings from health authorities that traveling for Thanksgiving is likely to lead to a surge in new coronavirus cases.

Definitely includes hanging out in airports where folks sometimes show their “cleverness” by what?

  • Wearing masks under their chins.
  • Draping masks so they hang by one ear.
  • Maybe carrying a homemade sign that says, “Covid-19 is a hoax”?

Of course many other mask deniers are driving to Thanksgiving. And you can only imagine how willing every single person at those family gatherings will be… To have followed other CDC guidelines for the pandemic… Like ever!

#2. Superspreader Holidays, a Gack Story

Dying Trump supporters still think Covid-19 is fake. Namely, Trump supporters who are dying of Covid-19.

Thanks to Blog-Buddy GEORGIA who pointed this out over at “Suffering Empaths No More.” In case you’re wondering, is this just some sick joke?

Sadly, not. Here’s a link to a CNN video about reality-denying, mask-denying, Covid-denying Trump supporters. All that said, now let’s start talking about YOU.

#3. Superspreader Holidays, Rachel Maddow Opens Up

For years I’ve admired Rachel Maddow’s career. Here’s a link to my favorite episode yet on “The Rachel Maddow Show.

I find this broadcaster to be thoughtful, caring, articulate, and curious. Recently, though I learned a lot more about who she really is. Since I saw this eight-minute video that is worth every second of viewing time.

Essentially, Rachel made the most heartfelt case for taking safety precautions now. “Unforgettable” isn’t a word I often apply to any YouTube video. But for me, this one really-truly is.

#4. Superspreader Holidays, How Lawrence O’Donnell Responded

For years, I’ve also admired Maddow’s fellow pundit, Lawrence O’Donnell, host of “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell.”

He’s a poet among pundits, and a stylish writer. (For example, O’Donnell was a writer and producer for the NBC series The West Wing)

As well, Lawrence a former staffer for one America’s greatest senators ever, U.S. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan.

At the start of each broadcast, O’Donnell chit-chats with Maddow. Usually I merely find it pleasantly-and-refreshingly human. So I wasn’t prepared for Lawrence’s loving, empathic response to that Rachel Maddow video.

Another beautiful reminder of the alternative to superspreading: Taking responsibility by helping to #FlattenTheCurve.

Hey, I’ve Shared What I’ve Got. Your Turn.

Please share your stories, your links, add them here at my main blog. What are your reasons for NOT choosing to turn your personal Thanksgiving etc. into a Superspreader event?

Nor risking the lives of your loved ones during this global pandemic.

I’ll be reading. Others will too. Because this coronavirus pandemic isn’t anybody’s idea of a jolly holiday. But, depending on how you respond, you can actually accelerate your personal growth. And also your spiritual awakening. And live The New Strong. Your choice!
