A Life Lesson from Kitchen Dishes

So Unexpected!

More unexpected than you might think

Kitchen Dishes Life Lesson. Yowza, this is the first time I’ve ever learned life lessons from everyday kitchen dishes!

Here’s what happened.

Unusual During this Coronavirus Pandemic

Very likely you’ve been learning life lessons aplenty. For instance, all these days and months, what you’ve had to go through just to get some safe food. And the whole complicated set of ways you’ve been protecting yourself and your loved ones.

But this little story isn’t about any of those big-deal trials-&-tribulations. Instead, it begins with one of my delights and consolations. Making the best of #StayHome: How I love my morning coffee. Now more than ever!

Make it several coffee cups, actually. Right now I’m drinking one. Actually, you can see his handsome picture at the top of this post.

So What Happened Regarding this Kitchen Dishes Life Lesson?

As a matter of fact, I’ve been drinking from the same coffee cups for 15 years. Imagine a stack of enormous coffee cups. Coupled with a metallic stand that holds the entire sweet set.

Maybe you remember the Pier One retail chain? That’s where I found my go-to coffee mugs. Found them, to my delight, back in the day. Sadly, Pier One is no more. At least not in my neighborhood.

Possibly one reason why? How I had no incentive to shop for more coffee cups. I had them already:

  1. Red
  2. Orange
  3. Yellow
  4. Green
  5. Blue
  6. Spectacular!
  7. Totally fulfilling my heart’s desire for coffee cups. :-)

Although I tend to seek life lessons in general. (After all, I’m an Enlightenment Coach.) I sure didn’t think I had anything more to learn… Not about this particular arrangement of creature comforts, anyway.

But Surprise!

Last week I went downstairs to find my husband Mitch at his computer.

Okay, that part wasn’t surprising.

Shopping away online, his screen showed a bright array of multicolored cups. Coffee cups (as maybe you’ve already guessed). Soon we talked. Because Mitch had some breaking news:

“Have you looked at your coffee cups lately? The glaze is cracked. Like, they’re probably awful for you. How about I buy you some new ones?”

And then he let me pick out the colors.

Kitchen Dishes Life Lessons Can Be GOOD News, You See

Adding up to something spiritually tasty

For those of us who always try to improve ourselves:

You know how uncomfortable that can be. Such as feeling the sting of, “I could have done better.” How it smarts! And on. And on.

But for this kind of life lesson-ing, I didn’t even suspect anything wrong. Maybe a thousand times I drank my coffee all the way through to empty. Yet I never had noticed the messy cracked glaze inside each cup.

Despite the many hundreds of times that I rinsed out my cup! All I thought was, “Definitely time to put this in the dishwasher.”

Not once had I looked. Or noticed the spreading web of crack-crack-cracks.

So Did My Kitchen Dishes Life Lesson Involve

Making Myself More Observant?

Heck no. Given that, for Rose Rosetree, becoming visually observant is probably a lost cause.

Instead, here’s where the learning came in….

My Kitchen Dishes Life Lesson Involved LOVE

How Mitch noticed something I needed: Really needed: And then he let me pick out my favorite colors. Afterward he bought me the whole set.

All too often one reads about love turned rancid. Or codependency.

By contrast, love can uplift us with thoughtful words and deeds. Everyday caring.

Furthermore, from a Spiritual Awakening Perspective

Love has the power to awaken us spiritually. So look for it in your life. Not straining for it, of course. Simply as an interested party. ;-)

Besides that, what if you happen to be one of the Blog-Buddies like me? Where you happen to have crossed the threshold into Enlightenment. Useful to know, love helps us to evolve within Enlightenment. Which is what makes this article a story of spiritual growth, not “merely” love.

Actually There’s More to this Story, Just a Bit More

Because my four new cups came with a built-in disadvantage. Basically, they wouldn’t fit in the handy metal stand from Pier One that I’d been using for years. Therefore, it seemed like my only option was to keep these new cups side-by-side in the cupboard. Turning them into space hogs and a nuisance!

Only Mitch told me, “I can fix that stand.” And he did. Behold the wonders of duct tape!

My Kitchen Dishes Life Lesson Made Sweeter with DUCT TAPE

In Conclusion

Seems to me, love is life’s great treasure. All it takes to build it? Simple thoughtfulness, noticing, caring, giving.

Sure, I don’t always talk that way, as a “fancy Enlightenment Coach.” Yet the fact remains. Being human, it’s entirely possible… to turn an everyday stack of dishes… into an altar to LOVE.
